Foxtale Photography | It’s Summer Time | Orlando High School Senior Portraits

When Lucy and I were living out in Jackson Hole, Memorial Day weekend was considered the official start of the summer season (there’s only three there: summer, winter and mud season). According to this past weekend, it holds true for Florida, as well. The heat and haze of the afternoon didn’t stop us from having an awesome session with soon-to-be high school graduate Summer (no puns will be made in this post).

We’ve noticed lately that several of the seniors we’ve photographed are big animal lovers and this was no exception with Summer. The avid horse rider is studying to become a veterinarian. We even had her dog, Lucky, to join in her shoot (he toughed out the hot afternoon with us).

Sometimes when I sit down to write our posts for our blog, it’s easy to get stuck because you hate to feel like you’re repeating the same thoughts over and over. However, every portrait shoot we do, we’re terribly excited about and truly enjoy what we’re doing. So in that case, I don’t mind repeating myself. Orlando-area teen, Emily, was no exception.

We met up with Emily at a nearby lake for our afternoon shoot and spent the afternoon shooting, laughing, and enjoying the nice end-of-spring weather. We convinced her (without much arm-twisting) to show off her new frames in a few shots which turned out absolutely beautiful! I don’t know if every evening is like this on the lake, but we had an incredibly colorful sunset once again. Emily is a natural in front of the camera and has a great sense of style, as apparent by her choice of outfits.

Before I finish up, I just want to thank everyone for all of your comments, compliments, and support. You’ll see another one of our video portraits at the end of the post, so make sure to watch it and let us know what you think.

Foxtale Photography | What to wear during your senior portrait session | Ocala Senior Photographers

An important and fun part of preparing for your senior portrait session is choosing your outfits. Your clothes play a big part in your session so you want to make sure to take some time and think about what you’re going to wear. You don’t want to look back a few years from now and  regret wearing what you did. We’re often asked for give advice about what to wear for your session so here are a few things to keep in mind.

We recommend that you bring 3 to 4 outfit changes. Having this many options lets you have the variety you’ll want later when you look at your photos. Variety is key, a floral summer dress will give off a different vibe than jeans and a leather jacket. Wear outfits that reflect your personality.

There’s a lot of great fashion blogs out there. If you’re not already following one, take a minute and search for a few. They can be a great source of inspiration for your outfits. To keep track of outfits you like, Pinterest is the way to go. Here’s a few fashion blogs to get you started: Be Trend MeSalt & Prep, Dress me daily, Blonde bed head.

The most important part is to make sure you absolutely love what you’re wearing. Take this opportunity to go out and shop for the outfits you’ve always wanted!

A few tips to help you pick out your outfits:

  1. Make sure you feel comfortable in your outfit. Remember you’re going to be moving around during the session and comfort is key.
  2. Avoid distracting clothing. Stay away from tops with wording on it or big logos. It will only distract from you and we want you to be the main attraction.
  3. Consider wearing layers. Sweaters, jackets, scarves are awesome and can really complete a look.
  4. Always accessorize. If you have special piece of jewelry work it into your outfit. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings are great, just make sure they never take the attention away from you.
  5. Keep the location and season in mind when choosing your outfits.
We want your senior portrait session to be the best it can be. If you’re unsure about your outfits, just e-mail us your ideas and we’ll be happy to help you narrow your choices down.
